Bar none, the most annoying thing about Origin is the inability to quickly and easily change your online handle as you would in Steam. Fret not, fellow Battlefielders! If you quickly clicked through the EA Master ID screens when first signing up for the service, under the impression it wouldn’t matter anyway, you probably got stuck with a name you absolutely cannot stand. Good news! We’ve got a fix! Now, there’s a catch (it’s EA, guys)… you must have a smartphone or device capable of playing an EA Mobile game.
Head on over to the App Store or the Android Market and download Scrabble Free, then log in with your Origin account. Once logged in, head down to the bottom of the screen and hit that gear in the bottom left corner to visit the Settings panel. Poke “Edit Account” and voilà, you’re free to change your username to whatever.
If Scrabble Free isn’t available, any other EA mobile games in your particular App Store that allows you to log in with your Origin ID should work. For those outside the US, grabbing MarketEnabler from the Android Market will allow you to effectively spoof your carrier.
Battlefield 3 on Amazon is down to $50.99 if you want to pre-order.
Thanks to Redditor Warmain for this fix!
