Humble Android Bundle 3

Humble Indie Bundles have been something of an automatic purchase for most gamers, and the latest Android offering will do nothing to change that.

Kickstarting the third mobile-focused bundle is FieldRunners—superficially your average tower defence game, but its simple yet polished gameplay make it a solid addition to the bundle. Next is Bit.Trip Beat—a retro-styled rhythm game combining the frantic action of a shmup with much more touchscreen-friendly Pong-like gameplay. Third is the chemical engineering puzzler SpaceChem where each deceptively simple objective turns into a massive series of interlocking flowcharts as the player strives to create the most efficient reactor possible. Wrapping up the base bundle is Introversion Software’s Uplink. A classic game by any definition—Uplink drops the player into the role of a computer hacker with a series of ever harder missions to undertake, necessitating the purchase of computer upgrades and constant vigilance to elude the irritatingly persistent authorities.

In keeping with tradition, those paying above the average receive some extra goodies—in this case Spirits—a hauntingly beautiful puzzle-platformer with mechanics instantly familiar to any Lemmings veterans. Also of note is the inclusion of soundtracks for each of the titles, as well as the provision of game clients for multiple platforms including Steam and the Ubuntu Software Centre. With all the usual charitable, platform and payment options on top of another solid lineup of indie games, this is one bundle mobile gamers should not miss.

As an Android bundle it’s up to the buyer to check compatibility and it’s worth pointing out that both Uplink and SpaceChem really need a tablet device to function properly, but on the plus side the Android Humble Bundle app makes downloading these games a snap.
