Today we’re proud to announce our own topic page on Raptr.
Raptr launched in 2008 and has grown considerably since then, culminating in their recent play to become a gaming influence network in the social space by offering curated rewards for gamers. The service ties in as many gaming networks as you’ll allow it to (Steam, Xbox Live, PSN, Xfire, etc.) and tracks activity across networks for all the games you play. As you gain time and earn achievements in various games, your influence level on that game goes up (it’s so meta!). For example, I have thousands of hours in Team Fortress 2 (my top played game), and therefore I am ranked “Elite”; of my friends, only that bastard idler BobbyDigi has a higher level than me. It also tells you what you need to do to move up to the next level for any particular game; for example I am considered “Hardcore” in Torchlight, a game I recently started playing again. To become “Elite”, I need to play seven more hours or earn seven more achievements.
At first glance, it seems that the levels are good only for competing with your friends. When you look at their Rewards program, however, you see the bigger picture. Brands that want to connect with a curated list of gamers can use the Raptr influence levels to identify good connections. Not much use giving out free DLC + a coupon to gamers who don’t play your game. Also not much use in trying to offer discounts on a new Logitech gaming mouse for someone who only plays Xbox 360 games. The Raptr reward/influence system is about making smarter connections between gamers and the brands/games they care about.
Raptr also has a gaming news/review aggregate feature, much like Reddit or other up/downvote-based systems. The front page is news curated to the particular genres, platforms, or games you want to follow. People can post news in those topics and up/down vote content that they read. Therefore, if you like content you read here on Icrontic, you can submit it to Raptr’s front page, tag it with “Icrontic”, and other people will be able to upvote it (we’re not open to the reality that people may downvote it too. Go away.)
The last cool Raptr feature I’ll talk about here is the forum signature generator. It gives you a live signature image for forums and social networks that can show off what games you’re playing, time played, and so on. Mine looks like this:
The amount of data that gets put into your profile once you connect your networks is neat. It gives you a good overall “big picture” of what kind of gamer you are.
If you can’t already tell, I’ve been a fan of Raptr since the beginning, so I’m very excited to make this announcement today. Join us on Raptr, follow Icrontic, and play games with us!
