Icrontic Oktoberfest 2011

Icrontic Oktoberfest 2011

Ah, autumn. According the the Official Primerian Calendar, we are now firmly in the season of Beer. That means only one thing in Icrontia: OKTOBERFEST.

Icrontic Oktoberfest is the annual celebration of our community’s love affair with good food, good friends, and good beer. We also have a kick-ass costume party and awesome music. It’s just another great reason to get together with all of the Icrontians and further remind ourselves what a fantastic online home we all have.

This years Icrontic Oktoberfest (ICOK for the uninitiated) is once again at IcronticHQ in Warren, Michigan. The cost of entry is bringing a selection of local micro- or craft beer from your region to share with everyone.

Events include:

  • Drinking beer
  • Costume party
  • DJ set by Detroit’s own DJ Meph
  • A special event from Annes for coffee lovers
  • Board games
  • Rock Band
  • Shens

The dates: October 27th- 30th. The costume party is on the 29th. Bring some beer, bring a silly or sexy costume, and get ready to have a really freaking good time. See you there!

Brian Novak and Sarah Wagner

This is normal

  1. CB
CB I'll be there. I'm staying at the LaQuinta because it's about $40 for up to 4 people. Not sure who I'm sharing my room with yet. Depends on who else is going from the Cincy contingent.

Only a few more parties at ICHQ before the move downtown, right?
  2. PirateNinja
    PirateNinja Really guys? ICOK?

    Edit: Oh, Oktoberfest. I'm slow.
  3. Straight_Man
    Straight_Man This might help explain:

    http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?p=801182#post801182

The reason that ICOK has little in the way of a fixed date set way in advance is that too many people unconscious on the floor or couches or vomiting can leave a mess (and since everyone going drinks, there is no-one to clean up spew until afterward except Brian and Keebs). It is a drinking party, informal drinking contest party, and sometimes a mini-LAN played while drunk among other things-- as best as I can figure out from reading posts.
  4. primesuspect
primesuspect 1) Not everyone that is going drinks

    2) It's not nearly as vomitous and insane as John makes it sound. The last ICOK was pretty tame.

    3) ICOK does have a fixed date.

    4) Yes, this may be the last official Icrontic event at the current ICHQ

K: An airport pickup is no problem :) IC Taxi Service in full effect.
  5. fatcat
fatcat because you know, ICHQ won't exist in 2012, ye hear!

also, won't make it. gotta work
  6. Linc
Linc Scotty has moved out, so the basement is available once again.
  7. Annes
Annes We're in. Driving. Basement sounds nice.
  8. RootWyrm
RootWyrm Save me basement space, pretty please. Pretty firm IN this time by, barring surprise funding miracles. You guys are gonna love GLBC's Oktoberfest this year - it. Is. Fantastic.

As usual, driving in, so totally available for IC Taxi Service(TM).

I recommend bringing an air mattress. It's pretty barren down there at present.

//edit: Probably can only fit 2 air mattresses total, FYI (maaaybe 3). If anyone else is bringing one it better have 2 people on it as well. My cots are pretty banged up; not sure if they'll be available.
  14. pseudonym
    pseudonym In the vicinity.
  15. Garg
Garg Most likely in, but possibly not until Saturday. I'm guessing the majority of happenings and goings-on would be on Friday?
  16. CB
CB From past experience, this is a primarily Saturday evening event.
  17. Straight_Man
Straight_Man Very tempted, but medical reasons leave me with no way to drive safely or legally, and no way to fly while having or recovering from complete hip replacement surgery (Oct. 3 and later for at least three weeks), and for medical reasons cannot drink alcohol-- so I know I would be a party- pooper also.

So, regrets and have a blast.
  18. HumerusMeg
HumerusMeg totally in!!!! :) highlight to my semester of grueling grad school seeing you all, can't wait! <3
  19. GnomeQueen
GnomeQueen Should be coming in Thursday evening!
  20. _k
_k In and since I am coming by myself now I will be crashing at the house....some place. I am sure someone will make room for me.
  21. MAGIC
MAGIC I would like to swing thru for a visit, we'll see how the schedule permits.
  22. djmeph
djmeph What are the dates? I'm guessing Oct 28-30. If so, I'm in. I would like to play a set for everyone if I can, I'll bring my equipment, but I just want to make sure that it's ok with the heads of household. Let me know what would be a good day and time that would work for everyone. Perhaps another round of my world-famous Captain Morgan French Toast would be appropriate? I will bring a warm sleeping bag this year, in case I end up passing out in the freezing garage again.

We'll still have about 2 months of existence to celebrate by ICOK 2012. What Brian is referring to is that the next one will likely be at the new ICHQ in Detroit. :D
  24. TiberiusLazarus
TiberiusLazarus Reconsidering attending. Requesting taxi service 10-27 (Thursday) at about 12pm; doable?

  39. CB
CB I just don't plan on sleeping at the house anymore.

    On that note:

Any other couple want want to split an already well-priced hotel room with Betsy and I? I promise we don't snore much.
  40. Cyclonite
Cyclonite We've already got a room at the La Quinta, so no need for any house-space for us.
  41. RyanFodder
RyanFodder Change of plans for me - work is going to pay for my trip (from Arizona?!) to Detroit. I'll be there sometime Thursday afternoon/evening.

Further posts when get more details!
  42. RootWyrm
RootWyrm Change of plans here as well. I won't be in till the 29th due to something that came up; if folks need taxi service after the 29th, I will be available for that.

djmeph In all seriousness there will be pants on everyone. As for the sexual tension and general awkwardness, that can be cut through with a knife.
  58. ardichoke
ardichoke Be honest, it's too thick for a knife to cut. You'll need a chainsaw. Maybe even a blowtorch depending on who shows up.

    Bandrik I'm totally in...

...IF we're going to have a live in-person Ponystream. Ponies are gonna happen, right?

THE CHANCES OF A WILD BANDRIK APPEARING IS FULLY CONTINGENT ON THERE BEING PONIES TO BE HAD.

Also, not sure yet on when I can get off of work, and where I'll be sleeping. I prefer crashing at ICHQ but will hotel up with someone if need be.
  68. cola
cola I'm not going to be able to make it, but I'd absolutely love it if there were some way you could livestream the event so us poor souls not in Michigan can be even more jelly of youse guyse :D

WagsFTW Have just Anne and Eli called dibs on sleeping in basement? If there's still room, I would like to also bunk up down there on Saturday night, with an air mattress. Will that be doable?
  75. _k
_k I am planning on sleeping some where in the house.
  76. WagsFTW
WagsFTW Here. I'll start the basement tally in order of those who discussed it:

    Basement:
Anne and Eli (Air Mattress? Queen?)
Rootwyrm (What are you sleeping on?)
    Sarah +1 (Queen Air Mattress)

According to Matt's calculations, the basement will be full with us. Not sure where else people can sleep, but I guess there are always the sumo's and couches upstairs.

(Insert Joke With Sexual Innuendo Here)

But to be honest I haven't the slightest as of yet. I was going to bring my twin air mattress, however, it was apparently ripped and put away like that by the last person to 'borrow' it. (I will still bring the bad ass foot pump I have though, in case anyone needs it. Very good at inflating air mattresses.)
Open to suggestions. I mean honestly, throw me in the corner with a Sumo and I'll be fine.
  78. djmeph
djmeph I should mention that I am planning on sleeping at ICHQ unless I decide to take the bus home or something. I don't want to drive back to Detroit under the influence. Phil you wanna cuddle with me?
  79. UPSLynx
UPSLynx I'm staying at the house. Typical scenario, I'll make it work somehow.

No sleeping bag or anything, California and all.

I only meant air mattress-wise. There's 3-4 sleep-worthy Sumo bags that will be down there as well plus I have some ground mats and sleeping bags/blankets. The air mattress limit has to do with Tetris-ing them in the awkward space down there without blocking the bathroom.
  89. Linc
Linc tl;dr: I'm completely unconcerned about having enough sleeping space.
  90. djmeph
djmeph I wonder if we might have another story-time session with CB. eh, CB?
  91. FreshyP
FreshyP I should probably get my computer out of the basement, shouldn't I...
  92. Bandrik
Bandrik I'll probably take the basement or a sumo/couch somewhere. I considered getting a hotel, but honestly I'll be too inebriated to drive to a hotel safely. So I'm going to sleep somewhere at ICHQ out of necessity.

I'll just join in the cuddle manpile.
  93. Thrax
Thrax Now that I've been armed with a great recipe courtesy of Fatcat, I would like to announce (hosts willing) that I will be making a few gallons of mulled cider for this event. You can, of course, spike your glass with whatever rum you so desire. ;)

Whew, thanks for reminding me. Yes, I'll put that on my list of shiznit to bring with.

There will be zany lulz that is We Didn't Playtest This At All! :vimp:

To those that don't know what we're talking about, this is referring to a bizarrely entertaining card game by Asmadi Games. Everyone gets 2 cards, and on your turn you draw one more, and play one of the three you wish. Each has a wacky action or new rule written on it. Think of the drinking game "Kings" and you'll know what I mean.

Perfect for 2-8 players. Best when drunk.
