Making your boss think you are forwarding emails…

While you view this on your favourite smartphone that set you back a couple hundreds dollars (or euros, yens, pirate gold coins…), you might think “hey let’s play something before the bus/train/airplane/wife/boss/death gets here”. Well you are in luck; because not only you have the perfect tool for that in your hand, but here’s a quick guide to some cool time killers (because admit it: you are tired of Angry Birds).

Tiny TowerAny of you older Icrontians remember SimTower ? Well, Tiny Tower is for you. Available for both iOS and Android devices, this 8-bit tower management game works in “real time” to make your tower the way you want it, but mostly to make you waste time at work. With only one room per floor, you can choose between six different kinds, from apartment to “creative” or “food”. Your “Bitizens” will work for you and give you money so you can build more floors, even when you are not playing the game (money collected is given upon re-launching the app based on your money per hour you are making). In the menu you can see your stats, e.g.: Economy, jobs available for your Bitizens and even a “BitBook” which beside being a fake Facebook/Twitter and being very funny, serves no purpose. An interesting SimCity-esque game that will set you back a tiny $0.

Now that you have a tall building to hide in during the inevitable zombie outbreak, you need to practice your sword skills to kill them. This is why Samurai Vs Zombies Defense is free for you, again on both iOS and Android devices. This seemingly simple Hack ‘n Slash platformer brings you into a level-crawling style game where you, a samurai, have to protect your Torii Gate from Zombies and Demons (mostly big Oni, and you know I love those!) spawning from a den at the other end of the level. With special abilities ranging from a huge sword swing to calling down lightning to strike enemies, allies you can summon to fight alongside with you, and items to heal you or make you stronger, you must slash and shoot (when you stay idle, your samurai draws out a bow and starts shooting) your way through all those evil entities!

Samurai vs Zombie Defense

And last, here’s Muffin Knight, because who doesn’t love muffins? In this little platformer you play as various knights and beasts, each with their own attack, trying to catch a muffin and avoid monster spawning from the top of the map. Each time you get a muffin, another one appears elsewhere and you randomly switch characters. The goal is simple: get as many muffins as possible! With 9 levels and 18 different knights that you can level up, and unlockable abilities, this game will keep you running for those muffins. Any one else hungry now?

You can get Muffin Knight for $0.99 on iOS, and $2.99 on Android.

There are still hundreds of apps i could/wish to talk about (cough Jetpack Joyride cough), but i’m sure your boss is about to burst in your office right now so I’ll keep them for another time…

  2. Thrax
Thrax Tiny Tower requires some extremely aggressive permissions on Android. I do not feel comfortable installing this game.
