New Releases for the Week of Sandy Guns and Golden Girls

New Releases for the Week of Sandy Guns and Golden Girls

Ravaged is a team-based multi-player FPS with a punk sensibility and a strong focus on vehicular combat. It’s like Battlefield in the world of Mad Max. The combat arenas are very large, and come with a variety of vehicles including personal helicopters, dune buggies with guns, and trucks upon which multiple players can ride (and shoot), plus various other beat-up looking rigs. Players choose between two teams, the Resistance or the Scavengers, and from among five classes. Additional focus is on team play; players must work together to succeed— a player out in the battlefield alone is unlikely to rack up many kills. Ravaged is one of the first modern-looking video games to get funded in a Kickstarter campaign. Originally planned for the spring, a series of production delays pushed the release until this week.

If you’ve played any RollerCoaster Tycoon games, you already know mostly what to expect from RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D, but it has a few new features which are exclusive to this platform. First, the main gameplay will center around a story mode that takes place all in one park. Rather than each scenario and challenge having the player build a new park from scratch, the challenges will be smaller in scale, and will have the player build a park up from small to gigantic over the course of the campaign. The best part, however is the 3D riding mode, in which players will be able to ride their own Roller Coaster designs in first-person on the 3D screen. Beyond that, it’s the same gameplay as ever: simulate the business of running an amusement park by designing and building rides, erecting infrastructure, hiring staff, stocking shops, and catering to the whims of a fickle customer base.

007 Legends celebrates the upcoming 50th anniversary of James Bond in film. The game, which is built on the same engine as GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, will feature six long missions, each representing a film from one of the six Bond actors. The films depicted will be  Goldfinger, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Moonraker, Licence to Kill, and Die Another Day. Some missions will feature the likeness and voice of the actor who played Bond in that film, while the rest (where they presumably couldn’t get the actor) will just use the contemporary Bond in their place. Each mission will have some shooting components, some vehicular combat or chase scenes, and some stealth action, with a particular focus on the stealth gameplay. More options and gadgets have been added to the engine, and the NPCs have been equipped with more granular detection and seeking AI. They might, for example, investigate strange noises or actively search for the secret agent if they know he’s in the area. The Multiplayer mode will be very similar to the one in Reloaded, with up to 12 players online or 4 local. There is a new level up system which shows a players experience and skill in the game, but it only affects the player’s in-game title, rather than providing special advantage. There will also be some gadgets to choose from, which will impart certain benefits to the player. The upcoming Bond film, Skyfall, will be released as a DLC mission after the film is released.
