New Releases for The Week of Supernatural Storms

New Releases for The Week of Supernatural Storms

Penny Arcade’s third game, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3, is a massive departure from the previous two titles in the quadrilogy. While the others were CGI, art-heavy RPG adventure games, this one is a classically styled top-down RPG. The change is a result of Penny Arcade artist Mike Krahulik’s decision not to be involved with the game. While the story is a continuation of the story from the first two games, which see Penny Arcade characters Gabe and Tycho as detectives in a stylized Victorian-esque future who must discover how to save the world from the wrath of Eldritch gods, none of the art or visual style is similar to the other games. It’s still an RPG farce, and is appropriately developed by Zeboyd, the makers of Cthuluh Saves the World among other new 8-bit RPGs.

Spec Ops: The Line is the long-awaited continuation of the Spec Ops franchise, which went defunct about a decade ago. This new game starts a new story in the same story-world: Dubai has been wracked by intense sandstorms, and the once wealthy city has been mostly abandoned. An important military commander stayed behind to help trapped civilians, and now must be rescued from the dunes. The player will control a team of Special Ops soldiers in third-person squad-based combat against the outlaws who remain in the city, and who stand in the way of reaching their goal. The big gimmick for this one is the shifting sands. The engine will order up sandstorms randomly around the city, which will make firefights more difficult and change potential paths through the city, making each game play out differently due to the locations and timing of the storms.

midga Wizorb is a great game, and likely even better ported to the PSP. If you like Breakout or Arkanoid or other ball-hit-block-break-bricks games, you should totally pick this up. It's also available for PC on Steam.
