Today Sony released a first-round list of downloadable PSP titles that will work on the upcoming PlayStation Vita. There are, of course, a disappointing number of games that aren’t on this list, such as Valkyria Chronicles II, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
That’s not to say that the games won’t be added eventually, as Sony mentions that this list is just a first round for the Vita.
This list is only helpful to those who own these PSP games in a digital form, however, as UMD transfer of titles is not coming to the North American market. Those who have owned a PSP and UMD titles for years can only play their titles on their old PSP (which is not necessarily a bad thing, since the battery life is far better on the PSP than the Vita). Alternatively, they could re-purchase their games in a digital form (provided they’re on the list).
The Vita launch in North America continues to suffer from minor missteps; individually they aren’t much of a big deal but when you add them up, Sony seems to be lacking the polish of other manufacturers’ product launches.
Hey, at least Final Fantasy Tactics is on the list.
