Spike TV Video Game Awards 2012: And the winners are…

Samuel L Jackson in Minecraft at VGAs

The Video Game Award kicked off with a short segment of the Hobbit, South Park style. And the host of the evening was the one, and only Samuel L. Motherfucking Jackson. But he wasn’t alone, as he brought some of his friends to join him on stage like Danai Gurira, Norman Reedus, and Steven Yeun from The Walking Dead,  Jessica Alba, Jack Osbourne, Zachary Levi, Marlon Wayans, Snoop Lion, Linkin Park and  Tenacious D.  This year’s show was a lot more entertaining than in previous years. They didn’t do the whole thing as a string of  ‘show a game trailer then cut to commercial’ like in years’ past.

In true VGA fashion, there were also world premiere trailers with:

  •  South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • The Phantom Pain
  • The Last Of Us
  •  Castlevania: Lords of Darkness 2
  • Dark Souls 2
  • Assassin’s Creed 3: The Tyranny of King Washington
  • Gears of War: Judgement
  • Tomb Raider
  • Halo 4: Spartan Ops
  • BioShock Infinite

All of the Samuel L. Jackson shorts were amazingly funny, especially the Minecraft and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The shorts for all the Game of the Year nominees were incredible. My favorite was the Mass Effect 3 short because I spend so much time in the multiplayer to raise my N7 rank up.
