Telltale Games has been on a roll lately; their rendition of The Walking Dead mythos was highly acclaimed by both critics and players alike, and swept up with 80 Game of the Year awards from various sites. Telltale clearly has some experience turning well-established IP with big fan bases into stellar video games, and that trend is likely to continue with “The Wolf Among Us”, a game based on the Fables series of comic books.
Fables is sort of an “alternate history” that tells the tales of storybook fable characters such as Snow White, Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, and others, living among us in the modern world, as humans, with all of their powers intact. It’s a long-running comic book series that has garnered over a dozen industry awards itself. Given the Telltale treatment, it’s bound to attract a brand new audience of gamers as well.
The story centers around Bigby Wolf (the Big Bad Wolf), and his life as sheriff of a secret enclave of storybook characters in New York City. Snow White, a bureaucrat, has tasked him with keeping order among the fairy tale characters as they try to mix in, undetected, with the mundane humans in the dark, dirty big city.
