Win a PowerColor video card by designing an Eyefinity desktop wallpaper

Win a PowerColor video card by designing an Eyefinity desktop wallpaper

Once you experience it, you’ll want it: a computer running not one, not two, but three monitors. The real bummer about this setup is that it has been a hassle to configure for quite a while, but the 2009 introduction of AMD’s Eyefinity technology changed it all. Running three monitors with Eyefinity is as easy as plugging them in and turning your computer on, and it only gets better from there.

One important piece of the puzzle is having an Eyefinity-capable video card. That’s where PowerColor and Icrontic come in!

PowerColor has been kind enough to provide three Eyefinity-capable video cards for a wallpaper design contest. We will be giving away two Eyefinity-capable 5670s and an Eyefinity-capable 5770 to the winners.

To enter, you need to submit a design for a desktop background that is big enough to cover the wide field of view that Eyefinity provides: spanning from, at a minimum, 5760×1080 up to 7680×3200 pixels. Three winners will be chosen—one by popular vote, one by AMD, and one by Icrontic editorial staff.

Entries can be renders, photography, or original artwork—anything that takes advantage of the enormous resolution made possible by Eyefinity—but must include the Eyefinity logo somewhere in the design.

Rules are as follows:

  • Artwork must be your own design—no using any copyrighted artwork!
  • Artwork must include the Eyefinity logo (provided here)
  • By submitting your artwork you give express consent to PowerColor, AMD and Icrontic to use your artwork.
  • The deadline for entries will be 11:59 P.M EST. June 20th, 2010
  • The winners will be announced on June 23rd, 2010
  • The contest is open to all countries, and AMD will pay shipping, but taxes and tariffs for import (if your country levies them) is the winner’s responsibility.
  • Contestants must submit their work with an Icrontic.com account, complete with legitimate email address.

Prizes are:

Popular vote winner: PowerColor Eyefinity edition 5770

AMD-chosen winner: PowerColor Eyefinity edition 5670

Icrontic staff-chosen winner: PowerColor Eyefinity edition 5670

Winners will be notified via the email address of their Icrontic.com profile. Best of best of luck!

Rule clarification 06/07/2010:

AMD has clarified the rules for us: Contestants may submit as many entries as they’d like. The Eyefinity logo cannot be altered in any way (other than proportionately resized); no filters, blurs, etc.

I'm pretty proud of that one.
  6. BuddyJ I wish I had an Eyefinity setup just so I could run a mondi background. I really really like the last two with the circles.
  7. Kwitko I vote that mondi get all 3 cards.
  8. PhIxX Guess I needed to post through the forum instead of the article.
  9. primesuspect Yep, You're entered now, Phixx :)
  10. Alex Here is my Entry I tried to make it 1600x800 and I used gimp for the design. Looking at the Picture I tried to freehand the graphics card itself. I call it, ATI Runs My World.
  11. Alex http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg473/Superemage/ATIRunsMyWorld.png this is an IMG and I wasn't sure how to post the whole file like everyone else is so I just did the IMG

I'm clarifying that with the contest's sponsor and I'll get back to you on that. Thanks!
  21. primesuspect Paul, you just have to register for the forums and post your entry here to enter. Good luck! :)
  22. Krab I have a question, how does the popular vote winner get selected exactly? Going to submit an entry soon, hopefully!
  23. primesuspect We'll put up a voting discussion with a poll allowing users to vote.

Is there any way in your awesomeness that you could cut this to a 1920x1080 or send me a "source" file for it and I'll cut it myself?
  26. Snarkasm I'll be happy to, sir.
  27. mondi Unfortunately, I have to temporarily withdraw my first 3 entries.
  28. Alex wow that is awesome
  29. sapetto There you go! My entry

  30. MAGIC Man, people are so good at reading rules.
  31. primesuspect Sapetto, your entry is not valid unless you register for an Icrontic Forum account:

    http://icrontic.com/forum/register.php
  32. primesuspect Please register for the forums

I don't know how else to say this: We need to be able to contact you; if you are not registered, you are NOT ELIGIBLE

  33. primesuspect Alright, thanks :)
  34. primesuspect Sure, now you can re-enter. I would suggest logging in to the forums to post your entries here, because then you'll be logged in :)
  35. InfraRed I'm logged in the forums

    Also logged in here

and it still asks for all the information.
    Anyway, here's my entry:

  36. sapetto I thought i can post my wallpaper through the comments on the site. Sorry for the double post but here is my entry from my registered account
5760×1080 (i have re sized it for faster loading :))

  37. Lincoln Infrared, I've never seen that happen before. Try logging out, closing your browser, and logging back in. Sorry for the inconvenience! Your above posts are fine as-is.
  38. Krab My entry is a massive mosaic wallpaper of three things; Icrontic, PowerColor, and AMD. For the Icrontic section, I’ve taken the liberty of conglomerating as many avatars of regular forum members I could find, along with anything Icrontic-associated, and turning that into the left side. The middle part, PowerColor, is mostly pictures of their products involving Eyefinity and PowerColor in general. For AMD, the pictures were taken from their website, and the people are from their board of directors, or employees interspersed on blogs. It's the minimum resolution for Eyefinity, 5760x1080, by the way.

    image
  39. Snarkasm That is goddamn AWESOME, Krab.
  40. Obsidian It would be awesome if I could find my avatar in it. I am disappoint.

I'm only one person, but I don't want to disappoint anyone. I'll resubmit an updated one with more people (and yours) as I come across them around the forums.
  42. BobbyDigi Amazing Krab!

    That said... Needs Moar Bobby.

    -Bobby
  43. Ivan100sic Since I have seen eyefinity for real and I know exactly what it looks like, i decided to submit an image where 2 black (or white) lines from the monitors egdes (or 7 with eyefinity 6) wouldn't screw up the image by splitting it where its not supposed to be split.
    So, here is my entry.
    image

    Full Size:
    http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9003/slogom3xhd.png

From entries so far, i most like Snarkasm's blue i-have-no-idea-what's-that thing. If I had 3 HD monitors and a card that can support Eyefinity, that would have been my background.
    @Krab
Amazing, but I wouldn't put that as my desktop background.
  44. leorick wow. I'm seeing a lot of good entries already. I'm going to post mine in a few days, just need a good theme for now.

    That's what she said.
  46. Budgieboy I will go out and get a picture from the hill, shame the sun has gone.
  47. PhIxX Since AMD seems to be ignoring my thumbnail when it adds images to their FB album of entries and photobucket keeps resizing it anyway (and imageshack seems to kill the quality in order to host it at full size), here's a more obvious image link and a second link to download the image file at full quality. http://thegatebcs.org/images/PhIxX/Eyefinity%20Contest.jpg - please delete my other posts.

  48. Silvos Does the Eyefinity logo have to be as is, or can it be modified? I.e. to fit into the picture better rather than looking like a stamp.
  49. primesuspect The Eyefinity logo can be resized, certainly
  50. Silvos I meant altered as in blured, re-made or filters applied.
  51. primesuspect Clarification on rules from AMD:

The Eyefinity logo cannot be altered in any way other than resizing it; no filters, blurs, etc.

Entries for people: unlimited per person. Feel free to submit as many entries as you like :)

  53. Jesse Coulson Hey guys this is my entry, I hope you guys like it!

    image
  54. Ivan100sic Good job Jesse Coulson! Pretty nice. Thnx for downscaling, it only took 1 minute to load. As i mentioned before, this pic would get cut in half right across the ATI Eyefinity logo if it was placed as a wallpaper of a system running Eyefinity 6. Think about it people!!
  55. pvtprinny Teh Image! There it be, the image. Is this the official place for posting the image?
  56. Obsidian It has been stated previously that entries must be submitted through a registered forum account. Please be sure to do so if you have any hopes of winning.
  57. Optix I'm planning on working the Eyefinity logo into the background. I'm not sure if it will work since we cannot modify the image so there will be a lot of trial and error but the one provided only scales up so large before it distorts.

Is it ok to use a larger version that I found here?
  58. leorick is there a particular size/resolution requirement for the wallpapers?
  59. Ivan100sic I guess you made it yourself?
  60. primesuspect I can suggest two sites for hosting images:

    DropBox
    Imgur

Or you can host them here by logging in to this discussion via the forums, scrolling down to the bottom, clicking the "get more options" button, and then looking under the "attach files" section near "manage attachments".

The size/resolution requirements are in the description of the contest; we made it quite clear

  63. pvtprinny Im a tard, was signed in in a different tab :( the image sorry
  64. Ryder pvtprinny,

    Thanks,
  75. leorick I revised my first submission, you can view it here. Photobucket kept resizing images bigger than 1.0mb

    image

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  76. Krab Well, with multiple entries allowed, I'll submit an updated mosaic; with more avatars this time! See if you can find yours, and if you can't, well, another more updated one will be created. And with this one, it's actually desktop-backgroundable (as in, it's not hideous to have as your wallpaper.)

    image
  77. Ivan100sic Its so damn easy to write a program that will do this for you!
It just loads a big picture
Loads small pictures and reduces them to 32x32
calculate its average color of every 16x16 block on the smaller pics.
Look at every 32x32 block on the big picture and calculate the average color of every 16x16 block.
Compare 32x32 block of the big picture to every smaller one.
    Find a closest match.
    Put it in place.
For a 5760x1080 picture there are 18,680,625 operations per avatar. for 1000 avatars the program would execute in 1,5567875 seconds on a X4 3.0 GHz processor.

    All numbers are approximations.
I still wouldnt put something so pixelated as my background, ya gettin it Krab? Try makin' it smoother, im sure it would look EPIC!
