      <description><![CDATA[We have secured a very compelling group rate at the historic <a rel="nofollow" href="http://corktowninn.com/">Corktown Inn</a>, which is 1.6 miles straight down Trumbull (a main road) from ICHQ. Great for couples or really, really good bros... awkwardly small for platonic co-sleepers). There are a very limited number of double rooms (two beds), and those will be $70/night. <br /><br />If you do choose to participate in the group rate, here are the rules:<br /><br />BE RESPECTFUL. We had problems with Icrontians embarrassingly getting security called on them for being loud and disrespectful at La Quinta last year. This is not the Icrontic Life™, and is immature and you're a jerk. Detroit may be a huge city but it's also a small town, and we don't want Icrontic getting a bad name.<br /><br />ABSOLUTELY NO UNDERAGE ROOM DRINKING. Come on, people. It's straight-up illegal, and also is a jerk thing to do.<br /><br />Use the rooms for what they're for: a personal bed, a quiet retreat, and your own blessed shower. This is a very, very good rate we've secured for downtown Detroit. Take advantage of it!<br /><br />I cannot secure the group rate unless we can commit to at least 15 rooms.       <description><![CDATA[Guess what, it’s that time of year again……<br /><br />EPIC 2013 Magic: The Gathering (Non-League) Draft - Note, this is not part of the draft league that takes place at various Icrontic events throughout the year. <br /><br />Because I like notes: Info below subject to change as needed.<br /><br />Date(s): Fri. June 28th, from 1:30pm-6pm<br /><br />Format: Draft, maximum number of players is 16.<br /><br />Cost: $10<br /><br />Set: Dragon's Maze-Gatecrash-Return to Ravnica (drafted in that order).<br /><br />I will be the judge for this event. If you have any questions during the event, raise your hand, call out "Judge", and leave your hand up until I acknowledge you, because I could be dealing with multiple questions at a given time. For the sake of keeping the tournament running smoothly and in a timely manner (as well as my sanity), all rulings made by me are final.<br /><br />Players are responsible for bringing any sleeves, tokens, dice, counters, etc. they wish to use during this event. I will provide paper and pens for keeping track of life totals and notes.<br /><br />Draft Structure:<br />Decks are required to be a minimum of 40 cards, with no maximum. Whatever is not used in your main deck becomes your sideboard. As this is a casual tournament, you may change the cards in your deck between games, meaning you don't have to restore your deck to its initial build at the beginning of each match. You are of course, limited to the cards you draft plus any basic lands. After the draft is completed, players will be given approximately 20 minutes to construct their decks. I anticipate beginning play approximately one hour after the start of the draft.<br /><br />The draft will be composed of 3 packs total: 1 pack each of Dragon's Maze-Gatecrash-Return to Ravnica (drafted in that order), and packs will be passed in a left-right-left manner. This means when drafting pack #1, you will pick a card and then pass the pack to the left, for pack #2, you will pass to the right, and then for pack #3, you will pass to the left again.<br /><br />Tournament Structure:<br />Each round lasts 50 minutes and there will be 3 rounds total. This will be a round-robin tournament, meaning even if you lose, you get to continue playing. Each match during each round will be played on a best 2 out of 3 basis. If a given match goes to time, the active player will finish his/her turn, and then the match will continue for 5 additional turns total (not for each player.) If the current game is not finished at the end of the 5 turns, that game will be declared a draw. The point value for each match (not game) result possible is given below:<br /><br />Match Win = 3 points<br />Match Draw = 1 point<br />Match Loss = 0 points<br /><br />At the end of three rounds, the person with the highest point total for a given draft will be the winner. In the case of a tie, the first tiebreaker will be the head to head result (if applicable). The second tiebreaker will be their respective opponents’ win/loss records. If still tied, there will be a one game (not a whole match, just one game!) playoff.<br /><br />Prizes:<br />Ok, the part everyone really cares about!<br /><br />First, tickets (if any) awarded for this event will be distributed as per standard EPIC rules, with any additional tickets to be awarded according to event results. Also as usual, I will be sponsoring additional prizes for the participants in this event. However, what these will be has yet to be determined and this thread will be updated with the information once I know what the prizes will be.<br /><br />I will be giving out at least one secret door prize randomly (like last year), maybe more depending on how many people sign up.<br /><br />I will close signup for this on Wednesday, June 12th at 6pm. This will give me time to get the product. I'm also going to answer a couple questions ahead of time, and will update this as needed.<br /><br />Q. Do I get to keep the cards I draft?<br />A. Yes, regardless of how you do, the cards you draft are yours.<br /><br />Q. Do I need to bring lands, or will they be provided?<br />A. They will be provided.       <description><![CDATA[<b>#ICSS #6<br />Labor Day Weekend: August 30-September 2, 2013</b><br /><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.facebook.com/events/664378990246016/">Facebook Event Page</a><br /><br />We're going to really shake things up for Summer Shindig this year... <br /><br />In years past, Summer Shindig started up around the Woodward Dream Cruise, but as the years went on people got less and less interested in fighting the crowd just to see some classic cars cruising Woodward Avenue.... and the million attendees didn't really help matters.<br /><br />This year we decided to really change it up, in light of Renn Faire being cancelled (ANNE... THE BABY) and Summer Shindig being less and less about the cars and more and more about just hanging out between Expo and Oktoberfest.... we're moving it north. Way north.<br /><br />Icrontic Summer Shindig 2013 will be held at <a rel="nofollow" href="https://maps.google.com/maps?q=115+E.+City+Limits+Road,+Deep+River+Twp,+MI+48659&amp;hl=en">Prime's property in northern Michigan</a> (around these parts we call it "up north"). It's 5.5 acres of lovingly tended wilderness, with plenty and plenty of camping space as well as woods and tons of privacy. There is a trailer on the property with running water and electricity, so we do have a shower and a toilet.<br /><br />Bring a tent, bring some beers, bring your favorite thing to grill, and you will have an amazingly awesome weekend of hanging out in the woods, campfires, and relaxing good times.
<h3>LOGISTICS</h3>
We will start the journey at ICHQ Detroit, to make carpooling as efficient as possible. When all the cars are loaded, we'll head up (relatively grouped up but definitely not "caravaning" which is unsafe and inefficient). The journey is just about 2.5 hours north of ICHQ Detroit. Every car should have at least one smartphone or GPS to get there. Google Maps has 115 E. City Limits road slightly wrong; it's actually about .25 miles north of where it says on the map... There is a grass driveway on the right-hand side that leads down a hill and up again to the property. We'll have a sign up.<br /><br />Those who are flying in can get a spot in one of the vehicles. Needless to say, I will not be TF2ing on it.<br /><br />Will there be any loaner systems at expo?  Anyone willing to let me play TF2 and/or the minecraft stuff and/or other games on?       <description><![CDATA[I really wanted to make a pun with Bordeaux, so now that that's out of the way. I'm looking for interest in another wine tasting event at EPIC this year. Last year was quite successful, given certain aromatic contributions of that closed space. Being at the house will also give us the opportunity for more food options. I do think we'd stick with disposable glasses since I doubt we have access to enough to use in that manner, especially if the number of people interested increased over last year. I'll also have tasting cards this time to help people remember what they enjoyed.       <description><![CDATA[EPIC 2013 is just over four months away, which means it's time to prepare.<br /><br />This past weekend I brewed up two batches which are now fermenting:<br /><br />The first is a British-style mild brown ale with a starting gravity of 1.032. It's going to be a low alcohol beer, great for not getting smashed.<br /><br />The second... I shall leave a mystery for now. Let's just say it will settle an argument.<br /><br />These two batches will join two other brews already completed:<br />- An unusual Saison: dark, slightly sweet, moderate alcohol. It made an appearance at Expo 2012 and will return this year.<br />- Barleywine: This is from the same batch that showed up at ICOK 2012...It's been bottle aging all this time.<br /><br />More varieties are planned. I was guessing on run time.<br /><br />I recommend a format that maximizes participation and minimizes time (rounds). I'm not half as interested in crowning an ultimate winner from some complicated bracket as I am in everyone getting maximum gaming time. I figure it's time to approach the possibility of expansion. <br /><br />If five others are willing to commit, I will purchase <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/glenfarclas-40-year-old-whisky">this bottle</a>. <br /><br />Of course, participation in one group does not mandate participation in both.<br /><br />Full disclosure:<br />- This will not be the same as the 1965 vintage bottle. It will be a "distillery bottle". Likely every bit as good though.<br />- This bottle may carry around the same cost as the vintage. At the moment the best price I have found (with GBP-&gt;USD rates) the cost should be about $450 with shipping but that could change.<br />- Participation cost will depend on the number of participants and bottle cost. At $450 the cost per person would be anywhere from $37.50 (12) up to $75 (6).<br />- This tasting would be held on a different day than the vintage tasting.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Gentlemen (and any interested ladies),<br /><br />Two years ago <a rel="nofollow" href="/profile/pragtastic">@pragtastic</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://icrontic.com/discussion/89903/a-hair-brained-idea-inspired-by-our-last-scotch-adventure">proposed</a> an event with the stated goal of locating, obtaining, and consuming a single malt Scotch older than any of the participants. To the best of my recollection we accomplished this goal (I don't remember whether <a rel="nofollow" href="/profile/Ryder">@Ryder</a> was a part of this group).<br /><br />I propose another undertaking, but there is a complication: as with the last time, unless Ryder participates, I would likely be the oldest in this group. As I am 36, this eliminates the 35-year bottles. Fear not though; I have located (for the proposed Expo event) a 1965 vintage bottled in 2005. As I recall, the cost to participate last time was $50 per person (six people split the $300 cost). This bottle will be somewhat more expensive (around $500 after shipping). <br /><br />The last event's bottle provided enough for two sessions for six people (we decided as a group to do two sessions because of the high alcohol content and wanting to savor it rather than get plastered). Cost and amount per person is entirely dependent on participation: <br />- the absolute maximum attendance* is twelve which gives about 2oz each for about $42 <br />- eight people comes out to 3oz each for about $62<br />- six people comes out to 4oz each for about $83, possibly becoming another two session event.<br /><br />*Of course if there's an overwhelming response (or a large enough number of people that want a larger quantity) I could always order a second bottle. For that to happen though, I'd likely have to require prepayment. One bottle I can handle without a problem.       <description><![CDATA[Here's some stuff we're working on for Expo. Last weekend, <a rel="nofollow" href="/profile/Aaron">@Aaron</a> and I completely hosed &amp; squeegeed the basement. Up next:
<ul><li>New lighting for the basement (with one switch to rule them all)</li><li>Replace the one boarded up basement window for additional sunlight</li><li>Repair brickwork &amp; tuckpoint entire basement foundation as needed</li><li>Repair holes &amp; ridges in basement floor</li><li>Demolish wooden walls in basement (opening 2/3 into 1 big area - equivalent to Great Room + Office + Hall + Stairwell + Foyer)</li><li>New lighting for the carriage house interior</li><li>Putting down pea gravel in the backyard (to fix the mudpit it's becoming)</li><li>Emptying all the crazy from the carriage house (dumpster #3 has arrived)</li></ul>
So basically, in case you thought Expo might not have enough usable space... I found some more. :D]]></description>

We're going UP NORTH to Prime's family land in rustic northern Michigan. No computers, no LANs... just tents, fresh country air, woods, campfires, and awesomeness.       <description><![CDATA[Another year brings another Icrontic MTG Draft League.<br /> <br />We have many skilled Plainswalkers here in the Icrontic community, so we pit ourselves against each other in our annual MTG draft league. We begin this year with MTG set GateCrash.<br /><br />Format:<br />Our format this year will be sealed/draft with each player receiving three sealed GateCrash booster packs and draft an additional two. Players have 30 minutes for sealed building then 30 minutes to finalize after drafting. The tournament will be Swiss style with tie-breaker rounds as needed. <br /><br />Subsequent events will be draft only. <br /><br />Scoring:<br />Scoring is the same for events and overall for the league. Event league determines the individual event winner and the winner of the one additional pack to be added to that player's pool. Ties at events will be handled in a best of 3 tiebreaker match. <br /><br />Winning a match awards 3 points towards your "season score". <br />Tieing a match awards 1 point towards your "season score". <br />Losing a match awards 0 points towards your "season score".<br /><br />Card pool rules and changes:<br />Players may only alter their card pool in one of three ways.<br />1) Being the winner of the previous year awards one card to your card pool. This card can only be added once and never changed once added. <br />2) Trading is only allowed in the time period after the previous event has been finished until players sit down at the table and begin drafting for the next event. No trading is allowed during an official event. <b>To preserve balance, each player is limited to three one to one trades per event. Trades can be made with any number of players.</b><br />3)The last way in which a card pool may be manipulated is with the induction of cards from an official draft league event (not to be confused with other Icrontic run drafts that may occur outside of the league. The cards added to the pool per an event and are listed above. These cards included drafted cards and prize pack. <br /><br /><a rel="nofollow" href="/profile/Lincoln">@Lincoln</a> as runner up from draft 2012, if you choose to participate in this years draft league, you will be able to carry a card from last year on.  Please post which card, if any, that you choose. <br /><br />Cost:<br />Will be based on participation. If we have 7+ I can order a box of packs and the cost will be around $13 per person. Pricey for the first round, but everyone will end up with five packs.
