Apple Readies 4th Generation iPod

Apple Computer has created a fourth-generation iPod that offers a slimmer case, click-wheel navigation and significantly improved battery life.

According to Newsweek magazine, the two new models will offer greater capacity for the same price as the current lineup. A 20GB iPod will sell for $299, while the top-of-the-line 40GB model will retail for $399. Currently, Apple sells a 15GB version for $299, a 20GB version for $399 and a 40GB model for $499.

There's no excuse for this battery rip off program that has a high rate of failures, usually soon after the warranty period is up. Scandalous I say...

29 Jul 2004 ~ 11:48pm john Well actually, as I've heard, the nickel metal batteries develop a residue inside that cause them to not be easily recharged to full compaciy . A new Litium Ion Battery really isn't all that expensive anyway. Ipod charges you tons in labor. With the Creative Labs hard drive based mp3 player, there is a removable faceplate that exposes the litium ion battery that can be replaced for $20. Now why doen't Ipod try that!

Laptop batteries are proprietary and expensive and I don't see anyone complaining about that...
