The [b]European Commission[/b]'s order for [b]Microsoft[/b] to ship a version of [i]Windows[/i] without the [i]Windows Media Player[/i] could stifle innovation and help [b]Microsoft[/b]'s rivals instead of promoting fair competition, the U.S. [i]Department of Justice[/i]'s antitrust chief said Wednesday.

"Sound antitrust policy must avoid chilling innovation and competition even by 'dominant' companies.
