FTC: Porn Spam Must Be Labeled

Pornographic spam will have to contain a warning in the subject line so Internet users can easily filter it out, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday.

Starting May 19, sexually explicit e-mail will have to bear a label reading ” Sexually-Explicit:” and the messages themselves will not be allowed to contain graphic material, the FTC said.

And how are they going to enforce this? -KingFish

Yup. The only real solution will most likely come from the marketplace. The worldwide nature of the internet prevents any one government from being able to enact any laws that stick regarding spam unless your country is walled off from the rest of the world via big firewalls like China. I predict this law will fall flat on its face unless they come up with some inventive way to enforce it without trampling on invasion of privacy or access rights. The spammers have to be having a good laugh on this one.

drasnor I know how. Make all the smtp-relay servers filter out anything with sexually explicit in the subject.
