Half-Life 2 Activated

Half-Life 2, next to Halo 2 and Doom 3 one of the most anticipated computer games for this year, has been officially released Tuesday at midnight. In contrast to the opening day parties of the other games, Half-Life 2 was launched with far less buzz in brief email sent to the community.

After six years of development, Gordon Freeman is back. The dominating character of the original game released in 1998 also leads through the sequel and meets familiar people including Barney the security guard and the mysterious G-man as well as a new female character, Alyx, whose mother was killed during the events of the original game.

Given the history of development of the Half-Life 2, the game made a rather quiet start. Developer Valve and publisher VU Games almost completely avoided their way through traditional public relations channels and also did not issue a formal press release. Instead, the press and the community received a simple email at Tuesday midnight.
