   Microsoft can roll out countless studies that point out how proprietary software is cheaper and more practical than open source code. But how can Microsoft counter open source software's ability to make a Japanese woman give birth to a horse in a convenience store?

   When I travel in Japan a group of us will sit in a bar watching TV and bet on what product the ads are for. More than half of the time you can't tell.

   7 Jul 2004 ~ 3:38pm Straight_Man Different computing culture over there-- they (Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, and even MANY folks in India and a relatively few in Tibet) like to max spend on hardware oomph usually, very minimally spend on software.... Hmmm.... Maybe not so VERY different from some of us in US and England in reality????
   
   The SOCIAL CULTURE can be rad unintelligible to a westerner, but they feel the same about our western culture over there, we do things that would be totally culturally forbidden to an easterner. But as far just cheap software, Microsoft is offering a radically-cut-down Windows XP to far eastern countries. It is priced cheaper also. The Far eastern market cultures DEMAND cheap software pricing.
