Mondays Running Commentary..

Monday and yet another windows flaw, is that becoming too routine?? Come on Redmond, you can do better. It’s all well and good spouting the “trustworthy computing platform” but you must try harder, C++ for effort?

Perhaps all is not lost, they didn’t miss this nugget… More than half of all Windows crashes reported to Microsoft Corp. are the result of deceptive software, according to Brian Arbogast, corporate vice president of the Identity, Mobile and Partner Services Group for MSN and the Personal Services Division at Microsoft…

We told you that already but nice try anyway?

Quick reminder that the First Short-Media LAN party has just seven days left before close of signing up! … see the primesuspect.. err.. primesuspect in this thread here to get a ticket to meet people who are as mad game crazy as you.

In other news.. ATI have revealed one of the secrets of their R420 GPU..
1) The board is red
2) There will be an X in the name (maybe even 2)
3) You won’t be disappointed in the performance
4) You will still be able to run it in your shuttle
5) It won’t consume as much power the space shuttle (or a competitor’s card for that matter)
6) Did I mention that the board is red?
Well gee thanks there  but I think:
5) It won’t consume as much power the space shuttle (or a competitor’s card for that matter)
was the stinger towards their nearest competitor… Still no mention of price though…

A Credit card that only works when spoken to is the next line of defence against credit card crime. Could be quite interesting but suppose you have a headcold and you get arrested for impersonating your chainsmoking cousin!?

I think Il stick to cash when I hand over my £500+ for my (now apparently) power conservative R420. Yes cash, rather than using my voice controlled credit card fed into a stores “trustworthy” PC full of MS security holes. Before spiriting it home to be spammed in my email by viruses, deceased Nigerian dignitries Im related to and promises of a bigger …

Mondays Running Commentary..

So we have hit the ground running and Monday is very much upon us already.

Reading the current crop of news we are seeing “story” and then “no story” at the flick of a button. Hands up all those who got sucked in by the XP Reloaded stories? Even we did. When it comes from a reputable source, one does believe it _could_ be true. Well it appears that there is no XP reloaded/second edition planned from the mighty microsoft. Yet. The great Redmond based monolith seem intent on keeping us guessing….

So we hit a new week with no doubt more revelations to come. Stories of interest could potentially be the ever moving graphics card market. With PCI express and the latest cards from ATI & nVidia hitting us, are we about to see the next generation or just another batch of “yep we upped the core by x mhz and did x with the memory”. Answers on the back of a postage stamp please. Promises of performance backed with “you need a 1kw power supply to use this card” do bare interesting circumstances.

In other news, the buzzword of the moment is ”Omegasearch”. Shame it’s for all the wrong reasons. Omegasearch appears to have succesfully infiltrated a huge amount of unsuspecting PC’s with it’s malware/spyware/thisshouldn’tbeallowedware. Nuke the new evil here.

Perhaps one is cynical but when the next generation ATI card hits the stores before I can use the free half-life 2 voucher I got with the last generation, it’s sending a message. We pay, we play and damn this technology.
