New Software Aims To Fight Pirates of the P2P

It has been reported a University of Tulsa research team has patented software designed to prevent illegal downloading of music over the Internet. The new software sends illegal downloaders on a wild goose chase in a P2P pond full of cyber-quacking decoys.

The software combats such copyright infringement by “essentially flooding the networks with alternative content that appears authentic,” said UT spokesperson Rolf Olsen

18 Jun 2004 ~ 8:41pm entropy Yeah, anyone who's ever used p2p already knows you have to dig through the crap. And people will learn. For example in Overnet you can check the filename from the people you're downloading from - if a majority are different, you cancel. All it will take is a few people wisely rename the files. Not that uh, any of use here would ever resort to P2P to begin with ...
