Online auction site ebay has made another blockbuster aquisition, today announcing it will purchase VoIP start-up Skype.

Ebay has agreed to buy Skype, the fast-growing provider of voice calls over the internet, for $2.6 billion, with the price rising to as much as $4.1 billion if the company hits certain performance targets over the next three years.

GHoosdum Apparently the attraction for eBay is the ability to allow customers to communicate with each other anonymously and for free over a voice channel (to deal with complex auction questions), which also keeps more of the communication on eBay channels, preventing folks from cutting deals that decrease eBay's fees.

ronbo Sure hope they keep it a free service. I use it everynight to talk to friends all over the world..
