EU praises Microsoft Reform Plans

The European Commission has praised Microsoft’s initial response to its antitrust ruling against the company. The ruling ordered Microsoft to provide a version of Windows without Windows Media Player, one of the reasons being to give rival software makers a chance to compete.

“I am happy that Microsoft has recognised certain principles which must underlie its implementation of the Commission’s decision,” said European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes.

The European Commission said it would now take a couple of weeks to determine whether Microsoft had met the full terms of its 2004 ruling.

“The commission is putting Microsoft’s proposals to industry in order to asses them in full,” it said in a statement.

Camman this stuff is foolish, does the EU really think anybody is really going to go out and spend money on a media playing program when there's so many really good free ones like Winamp and WMP10?? Just seems ridiculous, I have yet to meet a single person who has purchased a piece of media playing software
