   5 Jun 2005 ~ 10:30pm MojaveGator Ceko Gakovic is the chief technical officer for EZBoard. He is in charge of systems design and maintenance. He has an impressive list of credentials. I have not seen his name mentioned anywhere - is he being implicated in the problems with EZBoard?
   
   I am an administrator on one of many boards on the EZBoard system. My board, which once held 500 posts plus an archive of about 100 more, was reduced to two or three posts. We lost our entire message base plus everything in the archive. Despite EZBoard's claims that they have a restoration procedure and that things would be back to normal within 24-48 hours from the attack, so far my board has gotten back one archived post.
   
   We are strongly considering folding up our tents and finding another home. The only reason we haven't thus far is that my board has over 2,600 registered users, many of them sporadic visitors. There is concern that not all of them will find us.

   It's been slow going. The one EZBoard site that I frequent has only had a couple dozen threads restored, maybe 2 pages worth per forum section (about 10 sections on that site.) It does not sound like they are going to be able to get much of the rest back. Thousands upon thousands of posts are gone. Apparently it is the same story at hundreds of other sites.
   
   Here is the latest info on restoration efforts, and it does not look good:
   

   The most difficult and painful thing for me to report is that it will be impossible to restore full data on all boards. We will send out a Global Announcement once all possible restoration procedures have been completed. During this process, you can expect to see some slowness on the boards, but we’ll return to normal speeds as soon as the restoration is complete.

   Just curious about something. How did you have 2600 registered users and only a 600 post total? On EZ you must post on a board to show up as a registered user.

   EZBoard drops posts from the listing once you reach 500 in a forum. Once the 501st post is put up, the first one drops off into oblivion. This particular message board has been running since early 2001.

   7 Jun 2005 ~ 11:59pm MojaveGator EZBoard admitted, apparently today, that they only do routine backups on Gold Boards (those who pay extra to EZBoard for additional features). There are also boards who put in cash to pay for the boards, and a lot of their accounting figures disappeared along with the ill-fated posts.
   
   Early discussions indicate that my board will be moving to another site. We simply don't trust EZBoard anymore. There are other boards out there with more security and far less aggravating interfaces.
