New Laptop Battery Can Recharge In One Minute

Toshiba has just masterminded a new type of laptop battery that can be recharged in just one minute. The new Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery can apparently achieve a 80% recharge in just a minute, and is therefore some 60 times faster than normal laptop batteries.

The solution allowing such speed performances is based on nano technology. The innovation consists in the implementation of nano-particles in the battery, which prevents the quick disintegration of organic electrolytes, phenomenon frequently encountered at classical batteries. The nano-particles quickly absorb and store the lithium ions, the electrodes remaining intact during the whole process. Hence, a fast recharge and the improvement of the battery’s life cycle are possible.

RWB That's just awesome! I'd say it's a very major event.... do you think this also means less energy waisted and thus can possibly save on energy bills or something? The way I read it, I'd say it's possible to use this technology in other areas other than just recharging batteries but making appliances far more effecient.

Madball Now I want a battery that lasts 5 times longer. Even if it took 30 min to charge it would be great.
