NEW Realtek ALC AC’97 v3.75

Realtek have released a new audio driver in the shape of v3.75 for their ALC AC’97 audio chipsets. The driver supports all ALC series audio chipsets from ALC100 up to ALC850 mainly used as onboard sound on various motherboards.

3 Aug 2005 ~ 10:44pm ronbo Real strange. I downloaded them and installed them and lost all my audio. I have the MSI K8N Neo2 platimun motherboard and I know this is my onboard audio. Had to do a roll back to get my sound back....
I extracted them to a folder and clicked on the setup exe. And it said install complete now do a reboot. After the reboot the sound was gone???

They work fine on my test rig.

7 Aug 2005 ~ 6:56pm Enverex They seem to bring out a new version every week or so, but no-one ever seems to be aware of any bugs in the first place. Are they simply adding support for different boards? (although they should all ID themselves as the same device and thus not need different drivers sooo..) So basically, what do they keep doing? heh.

That's a good question, but I have no answer to that one, sadly.

I'm not sure if that is really a step up or not...

/me goes back to gaming with his Rice Crispies Audigy (Because it's "Snap, Crackle and Pop!") *growls*
8 Aug 2005 ~ 1:47pm ronbo Guess what Enverex, I have to agree with you. After installing the audigy I went heavy into Painkiller "Battle out of hell" and I was getting some random freezing in the game. I never got that before I put the sound blaster in? Is it just a coincidence? I will find out because the creative crap is coming out tonight. I will try the realtek with the new drivers again...
8 Aug 2005 ~ 1:55pm profdlp ronbo, you might try cleaning up the old Realtek registry references with something like RegCleaner before you try it again. Just make sure you choose only the audio stuff if you happen to have other Realtek devices, such as LAN, etc.

I'd clean out the Creative stuff that way, too.

10 Aug 2005 ~ 1:38am ronbo Still no luck with the 3,75 drivers. When I install them I get no sound from the line out plug( green one),,,but if I plug into the line in (blue one) I get sound. But the line in plug is for an external cd player? If I roll back to the drivers that came with the motherboard everything is back to normal. Speakers work on green plug like always. So the drivers that are working now are 5.10.0.5760 dated 12/1/2004. The motherboard is a MSI K8N Neo 2 platinum...guess I'm stuck with the old drivers for now....
10 Aug 2005 ~ 11:30am profdlp Have you gone into the speaker configuration utility and set it for the type of speaker setup you have? I use the MSI Sound Manger and can choose from four different options (4CH, 6CH, etc). With each one it changes which jacks perform which functions.

You might see if Realtek is sliding a mixer utility in there on you, too. I've seen people wrestle with a sound problem for days, only to find that a utility they didn't even know had been installed was muting some or all of their channels.
