Wall Street Journal Online reports that Office Depot is suing Staples over the latter company’s Google ads which are linked to the dissolution of Viking Office Products, one of Office Depot’s brands.
The dispute illustrates how the Internet is raising new questions about what kinds of sales practices are acceptable among major U.S. corporations.
In a lawsuit filed this month in U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach, Fla., Office Depot asked a judge for an injunction against Staples, along with unspecified damages. The suit alleges trademark infringement, unfair competition, false advertising and deceptive trade practices.
