RAM Prices To Fall Below Production Cost

With growing capacity outstripping lacklustre demand due to stagnant PC sales, ABN-AMRO analyst Crystal Lee said she saw DRAM prices falling to an average of $3 in the first quarter.

“It will drop about 30 percent compared to the fourth quarter (average) and then another 20 percent in the second quarter,” Lee said.

However, she expected a switch to a new DRAM chip called DDR2 to brake the price side in the second half.

I'll be loading up myself. Buying cheap DDR is like buying good stock, we all know that the price drop will not last long and DDR1 still will have a very useful life for a good long time. If you're a system builder and seller, that RAM will give your bottom line a nice little increase over the long haul.
14 Jan 2005 ~ 11:21pm muddocktor Yeah, I'm still getting good service from some ECC ddr I bought last time ram prices were cheap. I'd gotten some Crucial reg ECC 2100 for around $35 a stick. Around the same time I'd also bought some Crucial pc133 sdram for just a little over $20. Both in 256 MB size.
14 Jan 2005 ~ 11:34pm TBonZ Wow mudd, sdram averages 69.99 here for ss mem and 119.99 for ds mem in 256. That's with our dollar averaging .82CDN against the US dollar, sheesh, I'm feeling so ripped off.
