South Korea Urges US to Force Removal Of Google Earth Images

The Register reports that South Korea is asking the US to force Google to remove some sensitive images from its Google Earth service.

Presidential spokesman Kim Man-soo said earlier this week the powers that be were planning on “raising concerns with US authorities” after South Korean newspapers highlighted the shocking fact that Google Earth showed “images of the presidential Blue House and military bases”.

Regarding the Blue House, we did a quick swoop over Seoul looking for a big blue building with a stretch limo parked outside, but got distracted when we discovered another stucture which seems to house South Korea’s entire vintage air reserve, including a very poorly-camouflaged B52

TheBaron isn't that really something they should take up with google and not the us government? maybe i need to read about international satellite law though, I guess the government could have jurisdiction over what goes and what doesn't

saintuk As far as I remember there is nothing anybody can do to stop you taking images from space, something to do with the fact you are not in anyones airspace.

I remember the US govt complaining about a company taking images of area 51. After they found they could do nothing they just accepted the fact and hid anything secret, after all, they knew when the sat's were passing over.

The roofs are blocked on a few buildings, that's all. You can still see perfectly well where the buildings themselves are and everything around them. It sounds like they're asking for a lot more than that...
