1GHz CPU Beats 3.6GHz Xeon

Anandtech introduces us to the Sun T2000 Coolthreads server which is based on the Ultrasparc T1 CPU. This 32-thread, eight-core 72w processor, running at a mere 1GHz, is dubbed revolutionary by Sun Microsystems.

Anandtech gets it running through a number of benchmarks to determine whether it is actually a worthy products. Bear in mind that they are actually scratching only the surface of the product. The T2000 is compared to the Xeon Irwindale, to the Opteron 275 and a Dual Opteron 850. Guess that the GPU arena suddently got more interesting.

mmonnin Bah comparing apples to oranges. Comparing a wide CPU to linear CPUs. Wide CPU like that will outrun a linear setup in server benchmarks. See how well it works outside of its designed scope and run some gaming benchmarks on it.

Being able to process mutiple threads will give it a huge advantage once the clock speed is upped some more. Add 50-100% more clock speed and it will be one Awesome Server!!

Sledgehammer70 LOL these CPU's are not made for gaming...
  3. Thrax
Thrax It'd be a more reasonable test if they fired the T2000 on the Itanic.
