AM2 FX Line To Up Cache

The next generation AMD FX chips, will have the full Opteron level of L3 cache, most likely 4MB.

Until software becomes much more threaded than it is now, this will be more than enough to keep up with the competition, or at least keep things credible.

17 Feb 2006 ~ 6:42am Omega65 I was planning on skipping the AM2 generation but I would upgrade to a 4MB L3 cache CPU!
17 Feb 2006 ~ 8:34am RWB Looks pretty sweet, but hasn't it been shown that the added cache only brings negligible performance increases in most day to day things including, but not limited to, games?

If so I think I'll stick with my 3800+ with only 512K of L2 cache on each core for a while longer.

On this day of October the 22nd 2005 I hereby vow to not update my computer for One(count:1) Year with the exceptions of:
1) A planned upgrade of a Geforce 6600GT for the reason I bought an SLI capable main board.
2) An Emergency* or Accident**
*An Emergency is defined as: "a sudden unforeseen crisis (usually involving danger) that requires immediate action"
** An Accident is defined as: "anything that happens by chance without an apparent cause", "a mishap; especially one causing injury or death"
Therefore I cannot purposely cause any Emergency or Accident as it would in actuality be of my doing and thus void this Vow and I am thus S.O.L.(read: S*** Out of Luck)

I don tthink you really have a choice buddy!!

I've run a X2 3800+ (2.0ghz 2x512KB) & a X2 4400+ )2.2ghz 2x1MB), both at 10x HTT250 2.5ghz on basically identical machines. After a few days I sold the X2 3800+ and bought a Opty 170 (2.0ghz 2x1MB). The difference between 1MB & 512K cache DualCore CPUs is noticable in usage (and in benchmarks).

Hopefully, but you probable wont see it in the lower end DualCores until AMD's 65nm process is up and running at full speed (Q1 2007)
