Dell Buys Alienware – Officially

Dell Enhances its Commitment to High-Performance Computing with Planned Acquisition of Alienware Corporation.

Dell announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Alienware to further satisfy the growing number of consumers and businesses seeking the highest-performance PC products, including those used for gaming and multimedia digital content management. Terms of the planned purchase will not be disclosed.

Dell said Alienware will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary following completion of the transaction and will maintain its own product development, product marketing, sales, technical support and other operations as well as brand. The management and founders of Alienware will continue to operate the company as a standalone unit of Dell.

Can I say told you so!

Camman check out Alienware's website and ordering system now, it looks identical to Dell's. Wonder how quick they got that changed over. Anyway, I was thinking about buying an Alienware laptop so I wonder if this purchase (meaning Dell->Alienware) is a good or bad thing for their products...

Yeah ive had pretty good experience with them as well, although I noticed something tricky is I have a phone number at work I call for Dell Support and it is a different one from the consumer number and I always get somebody in like Texas relatively quickly, when I call the consumer number I get put on hold constantly and it's always someone in India. Once I got connected it was okay but it's obvious they know it's an annoyance and have a different setup for large corporate customers.

If this merger leads to synergy of Alienware cutting-edge systems with the backing of Dell's support system, I'll have no qualms about buying an Alienware system.

When I was pricing out a new lappy a couple years back, I had two systems spec'ed out. 1 from Dell, and 1 from Alienware. I ended up getting the Inspiron 8600 because of Dell's 3 year extended waranty & 3 year accidental damage addendum.

Both added about $180 to the cost of the laptop, which I recouped when my Ati 9600 Pro Turbo started to overheat a year and a half after purchase. The Dell tech showed up on my doorstop with a new 15.4" LCD screen & video card. He replaced both and 20 minutes later my laptop was good as new.

Anyone can say what they will about Dell, whether as Home Customer (personal purchases) or as a network admin trying to get as much bang for my company's $$$, I cannot find any unsurmountable faults with Dell. Are they perfect, Hell No!, But then again, neither am I...

    just my 2c...
