Dell To Push More AMD Systems

Dell To Push More AMD Systems

We all know this was going to happen once the announcement of Dell using AMD chips came forward. But we didn’t know how soon Dell would implement AMD CPU’s out side of the server market. Sources all over Taiwan confirm that Dell is going to launch more AMD based systems and soon. Dell can hide products until launch day, but you have to order parts some time, and there are no secrets in Taiwan.

Either way, expect another big bang announcement from Dell as soon as Wall Street needs to have a shiny thing dangled in front of them as a distraction.

Garg Puts Intel in an interesting position. I'm sure that Dell was getting a discount on Intel chips because they were using them exclusively, but would Intel dare to start charging them more and lose some competitive edge against AMD?

tefleming Also odd timing. As Intel chips start to get really promising (I'm speaking of course of the Core 2 Duo) Dell starts considering jumping ship.

TheLostSwede Intel didn't make many bucks from selling to Dell before when you consider the amount of manwork and money they put in for Dell. Intel announced a couple of months ago that they would stop the discounts and that they started having more or less a flat price. Shortly after that, Dell announced Amd as a new partner. Go figure.

Also, Dell relies on a result based on a whole year for huge purchases and Amd was incredibly strong the last year and Intel lost a lot of ground in the Desktop market and Server market. This move might prove being pretty expensive for Dell come next year. On the other hand, AM2 still outsells both 775 and 939 cpu's where i live by quite a margin.
