The move to dual-core is definitely a win for consumers. Since they are more affordable than dual processor systems, but offer the same or better performance, they are becoming the standard for modern computer systems.

TechReport

AMD’s dual-core Opteron processors are extremely well executed on all fronts….One Opteron 175 performs slightly better than a pair of Opteron 248s running at the same clock speed, and it does so while consuming less power than a single-core Opteron 152.

drasnor I mildly disagree with the test configuration for the first article. By only using two sticks of memory in the dual Opteron system they have either the option of running NUMA in single-channel mode or non-NUMA in dual channel mode. They don't specify which configuration they're using.

airbornflght cool, wish i had the money to splurge for a dual core system, but im holding off for a killer socket m system (maybe a socket f system if im lucky)
