MSN Music Buyers: No Luck With Zune?

MSN Music Buyers: No Luck With Zune?

If you have a lot of music files you’ve “purchased” from MSN, be aware that Microsoft’s new Zune player won’t play them.

But that’s alright – you can always “buy” them again.

People who have bought music from Microsoft’s MSN Music store could face problems if they decide to buy the firm’s new Zune portable player.

Microsoft has said it will stop selling music from MSN music from 14 November, when Zune goes on sale in the US.

But in a move that could alienate some customers, MSN-bought tracks will not be compatible with the new gadget.

The move could also spell problems for the makers of MP3 players which are built to work with the MSN store.

jhenry As much as I want to, I think I'll skip saying my mind...

    I'm not surprised though.

Shalimar And MS wonders why people have a dim view of them, their actions do not surprise me in the least and i for one will not purchase the Zune, Prune, or whatever player they release next regardless.

Typical as usual they will leave thousands of people with a bitter taste in their mouths.

    Once again they have excelled!!!!!

godzilla525 I honestly can't believe MS is that stupid to go and shoot themselves in the foot like that... but then again, I can... ;D And the sad part is that people will probably buy these things even AFTER they know this. They're getting to be like Sony where the content division clashes against the hardware division.

(I like my iRiver iFP-790 player: USB Mass-Storage device; plays Vorbis files. I'll still be able to use it after I migrate to Linux. Only has 256MB though. I also have no interest in trying to watch stuff on a small low-rez screen)

That's what gets me - you'd think that they would reward their old customers, not punish them.

Thrax I suspect this will change.
