Pioneer the world’s first company to commercialize the production of DVD recorders. Has decided to stop development of the red laser, and jump abort with Sony to start making Blu-ray players and recorders.
Intead, Pioneer has plans to shift to Blu-ray format, promoted by Sony Corp and Matsushita, by purchasing key microchips and software from Matsushita.
According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Pioneer is recognising that red lasers are old hat and developing the technology will just cost it too much.
