The Commodore is back!

The Commodore is back!

Commodore has released a new handheld product with GPS; music, image, and video playback; gaming (NES emulator), and more.

Some of the things that I saw and heard at our meeting totally blew me away; the ideas they have for the direction of the company, if pulled off correctly, could make Commodore a household name again! The demo we were shown was for the Commodore Navigator Combo.

Can the company that sold more computers of a single model (30 million) than any other make a come back?

Enverex Should remove "The" from the title as there is no such thing as "The Commodore", Commodore was the company, so thats like saying "The Sony" or "The Microsoft". The company went bankcrupt ages ago though so I'm wondering how they managed to pay off everyone to reform...
  2. TheSmJ
TheSmJ I doubt it's really the same company, only the same name. Just like company who published the UT2K series (Atari) isn't the same Atari that was around in the 80s.

Enverex Yeah. That is what I thought, but I fail to see why someone would want the name and logo of a company that was so badly managed that they managed that they ran everything into the ground then bankrupted it...

profdlp Lots of people have fond memories of their Commodore. They probably wouldn't be too concerned about the business end of things going sour in the past.

CyrixInstead The Amiga has been going strong as a platform in its own right the past few years, I even saw a copy of Amiga format in my local newsagents a year or two back.

I think somebody bought the brand name etc of Commodore ages ago.

Enverex Amiga now has nothing to do with Commodore at all. Commodore went bankcupt ages ago and Gateway bought the Amiga then some more things happened and now Amiga and all rights, kickstarts etc are owned by "Amiga Inc." nothing to do with Commodore at all.

Amiga isn't going strong at all, people are still waiting for an OS for their new "Amiga ONE" hardware and have been for years with people screwing everyone else about and hardware companies constantly changing their minds about everything. The only thing the Amiga has is a large community.

godzilla525 I remember seeing a picture around for a Commodore mp3 player called the MPET a while back. I don't know what the deal is, but for some reason nobody ever seems to be able to return that moniker to its former glory. I think they should start making gaming-spec PCs (that's what most people used the C64 for) and replace the Windows logo on the keyboard with C=. :) ...also include complete emulation software and a library of classic games as a bonus. ...maybe even USB expansion modules to allow use of the original cartridges and floppies.
