Not in terms of "rad". The iPhone, despite its shortcomings, is THE phone to have. As a nation of consumer whores, another product won't defeat the iPhone. A successful marketing campaign will.
I purchased mine because I don't have a mp3 player, I wanted the Google Maps feature, and I wanted something thinner than my RAZR that'd fit nicely in my suit pocket. The iPhone met those requirements, and exceeded in some aspects compared to other phones. Certainly the "cool" factor played into my purchase, but it was not the main reason I got it.
I'm sure most purchases were based more on the hype and fashion aspect, which can again be attributed to marketing. Phones are a popularity contest.

And I have a blackberry because it can do everything and more than the iPhone, and doesn't make me grease the screen to thumb out a message.

I think it looks alright but I'd rather have a blackberry. That is if the service for any of the smartphones wasn't ~$100 a month.

I guess things are expensive where you live. My plan on my iPhone is $59.99;)

Its oklahoma. We don't even have that much 3G coverage yet.... All the technology is on the east and west coasts, and then is creeps toward the center.
