Is Skype coming to the PSP?

primesuspect The PSP is rapidly becoming a very, very useful little device. I can remote control my PS3 with it, I can watch movies, use it as a portable media player, get on the internet with it, play sweet games with it, buy games from the playstation store (PS1 catalog!) for it, and now with some more firmware updates, I'll be able to use it as a skype phone and also copy blu-ray movies to it. FFS this thing is only $169.

BuddyJ If only it'd do laundry and attend to physical needs. Here's hoping for future updates!

NiGHTS GPS, too! What took them so long to go this route?

It would need extra ports for that.

BlackHawk Hmm. Gonna have to look at one when I get paid.

CB What's the real cost of this gizmo? If I put Skype on it, and set it up to make calls to any number, and I also use it for web browsing, what would I be paying for each month? PSP connection service? Internet service? Skype service?

Would all that add up to less than a cellphone?

primesuspect You pay for the PSP. Skype is free to other skype users. There is no PSP connection service. You can get on anywhere there is WiFi. SkypeIn/SkypeOut (calls in and out to real phone numbers) cost something, I don't know what - but it's through Skype, not Sony.

CB For some reason, I was imagining it connecting cellularly... so I guess one could not in-fact replace their cellphone with it.

Still, it seems like a neat toy with all the extra things it can do. I had to take apart Catan to make Eifel Tower (I'll update my sig as soon as I get the system totally up and running), so now I don't have web access in my Game-room. This might be an neat solution.

How does it do with a rather weak WiFi signal?

primesuspect Actually it does surprisingly well. My house is notorious for having wonky wireless, but on the PSP I have no issues anywhere.

Your-Amish-Daddy I'm pretty sure the PSP could use EVDO or something similar with USB with a little hacking to the firmware, and use the cellphone as a modem to some extent.

broady81 *looks at his DS* depends what type of games your into in my opinion - It's between an Asus EEE and a PSP to waste my income on at the moment - I know which would be more useful :rolleyes2
