Still- my prediction is that SSDs are going to wind up all of faster, quieter and more reliable than HDs we've got today. 2-3 years they'll be competively sized and priced. In 5 HDs in a PC could go the way of the floppy.
But today ... I can't justify dropping about a kilo-note on a 64GB anemic SSD when I can get a 32GB jump drive for under $100.

The technology is very exciting to me, but far too immature at this point. I think you are right, Qeldroma, give it a few years. Mechanical HDDs will be obsolete faster than people think.
