Though Verizon has recently come under fire for hiking their ETF to an astounding $350, they aren’t the only carrier with costly penalties: Canceling on T-Mobile’s Nexus One is every bit as painful.
As we reported before, the Google Phone’s ETF is $350 within the first 120 days of purchase if the handset is bought with T-Mobile subsidy–$350 is the difference between the phone’s subsidized price of $179.99, and it’s $530 MSRP. But this ETF comes in addition to T-Mobile’s own termination fee, which is $200. Thus, the cost of canceling the Nexus One within the first 120 days of purchase is a whopping $550, or a shade higher than the cost of an unlocked Nexus One.
In short, buyers purchasing the Nexus One on T-Mobile subsidy should make damn sure that they don’t want to cancel their plan and return the phone within 120 days, because it will not be cheap.
