I’m a fan of shooter-type games. Shoot-em-up, side-scrolling shooters, bullet-hells, whatever you want to call them, I love them. As such, I try to keep my eyes out for new entries to the marketplace. One such newcomer is the Xbox Live Indie Game, “A Shooter” by Sorcery Games.

While it may seem like any other shooter already out there, it tries to bring a more balanced challenge to the table to help newer or less skilled players have a chance to enjoy a shooter-type game. Ship power-ups are permanent, and players can retry any level as many times as they want instead of having to start from the first mission after a game over. Also, the game starts out easy enough, with a gradually ramping-up of the difficulty curve.

Don’t think A Shooter will go soft on you, though. Sorcery Games is throwing a high-score competition to coincide with their new game. Those that score the highest have a chance to win some of their gear, for those that are up to the challenge.

Of course, A Shooter still has everything else any good modern-day shooter has. End-level bosses offer a final hurrah to each mission, the game offers 2-4 simultaneous cooperative multi-player modes, as well as global high-score tables.

A Shooter is available now, and since its an Indie game, don’t be surprised by the lower price. The ticket to ride is 80 Microsoft points (or $1 USD), making it an affordable shooter to start with before trying other (much more difficult) shooters such as Ikaruga or Triggerheart Exelica.

Bandrik If I haven't made it clear enough already, I LOVE shooters. For a buck, I'll definitely be picking this up.

Though I was wondering. Are there any other shooter fans in the audience? I'm curious if people still play these games.
