Economy blamed for rise in ad supported games

cs_logoComScore. com, a company which makes Internet traffic measurements its business, today released statistics showing that online, ad supported gaming, has increased 27 percent over the last year (for comparison, the total internet audience has only grown 4 percent in that same time).

Speculating that the increase is caused by the economic downturn, they provided this chart showing the increase in traffic to the most popular flash games portals:

  1. CB
CB I'm not sure that I agree that the economy is the only reason for the increase. I think that the quality of flash games is increasing every day.
  2. DrLiam
DrLiam The way companies are developing ads in games are a lot better in design. Meaning that ads in games are more appealing to users and integrated in a way that's less intrusive but dominate enough that you cannot miss it on the screen.
  3. Linc
Linc I hear advertisers love gambling sites because the average pageview is like 8 minutes long. Talk about a killer impression! I would assume the same holds true for Flash games.
  4. Snarkasm
Snarkasm This can also be applied to video games in general; games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Skate, Burnout, etc have all seen large rises in in-game advertising. It's a little bit annoying, but not nearly as annoying as the fact that despite all these ads, we still pay $60 or $100 for the damn game.

You put ads in there to subsidize your cost. Now freaking subsidize OUR cost, you greedy bastards.
