Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch has confirmed in a short blog post that a public beta of Flash 10.1 for Android will debut May 19-20 at Google’s I/O conference.
“We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June,” Lynch said. “From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice”
Google I/O is a web developer-focused conference held annually by Google to discuss web applications using Google and open web technologies. Founded in 2008 and held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the two-day symposium has swelled to more than 100 technical seminars. Several products and updates synonymous with the Google ecosystem have been announced during I/O’s short lifetime, including new major versions of Android, Google Wave and Chrome.
Adobe’s decision to work an aggressive timetable for Android, meanwhile, is the result of Apple’s continued resistance to Flash on the iPhone and iPad, which recently came to a head with a public censure of the tech by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
