AMD has released the FirePro 2270 and FirePro V5800 DVI professional graphics cards. These cards are designed for professionals in the medical, financial, design, and engineering fields who require multiple high resolution displays in the course of their work.
The FirePro 2270 is a low-profile, passively cooled card that can drive a pair of 30-inch displays through its DMS-59 port. Maximum resolutions of either 2560×1600 (digital) or 1920×1200 (analog) are supported through the DMS-59 port. Included cables support DVI and VGA connections, and a DisplayPort cable is sold separately. The diminutive GPU also has an equally small power consumption; up to 15W is consumed under load. Two varieties of the card are available—one for PCIe x16 slots and one for PCIe x1 slots. Both versions carry 512MB of RAM and carry an SEP of $149.
The FirePro V5800 DVI is designed for professionals who need two large high-resolution displays but don’t require DisplayPort connections. Two dual-link DVI connections are on the board, making the use of multiple displays far less complex since no additional adapters are needed. These connections support a maximum resolution of 2560×2048 at 60Hz. Additional specs include 1GB GDDR5, 800 Stream processors, and a 128-bit memory interface. The SEP for the FirePro V5800 DVI is $469.
Both FirePro cards come with a three year warranty, support OpenGL 4.1 and DirectX 11. Drivers are available for all versions of Windows from XP through 7 (32- and 64-bit), as well as Linux. Both cards are available from professional graphics retailers worldwide.
