AMD unveils Catalyst 10.6 with a focus on video acceleration

Today AMD is releasing the Catalyst 10.6 driver suite for all Radeon video cards. The primary focus for this driver release seems to be video performance in encoding/decoding situations.

Besides improved support for the recently released Adobe Flash 10.1, they have announced improved video de-blocking and “mosquito noise” removal for low bitrate videos on the Radeon 5000-series of GPUs.

There is also the usual slew of slight performance percentage increase in a variety of games that seems to come with every driver release nowadays

According to AMD’s Terry “CatalystMaker” Makedon, the drivers should be available at the game.amd.com site sometime today.

Update: Drivers are now available
