Found over at the AMD support section the new drivers ameliorate a variety of Windows Vista issues, including several widescreen resolutions being unavailable on a VGA-connected CRT.
If you are one of the exotic few who have a CRT that employs 1680×1050, 1800×1440, 1920×1080 or 1920×1200, and strange you are, these drivers are for you. Smashing.
