Starting June 17th, you’ll be able to play the full version of America’s Army 3 on Steam. Downloading it with Steam gives you access to the Steam Cloud, and additional features like roaming config profiles, achievements, and auto-updating.

America’s Army 3 is an all-around update to the now venerable franchise of free US Army recruitment-tool-turned-video-game experience. Using actual Army tactics, terminology, techniques, equipment, and culture the idea is that by teaching young men and women how awesome it is to be a soldier, they’ll want to run out to their local recruiter and sign up for duty.

Politics and propoganda aside, the level of detail that goes into making this the most realistic infantry trainer available is impressive. Every aspect, from weapon reloading to the sounds of gear has been checked and rechecked by actual officers and soldiers. If you’re interested in playing it strictly as a game for the sake of realistic combat, you’d be hard pressed to find a more authentic experience, especially considering the price of “free”.

Gate28 They never labeled it AA2. It was just a superupdate to AA1 that they decided to call AA2 in their heads, I think.
  5. fatcat

  7. pragtastic
pragtastic I played the first for a while, have to say it was pretty good for a free online FPS. Thinking about trying AA3 out just to see what they've done w/ it since.

TiberiusLazarus Played AA a couple years back. Had some good multiplayer options that I would like to see what they've done with since.

NiGHTS I, too, had no idea they made an AA2. I used to play AA online a lot, I'm a sucker for "realism" FPS.

+1. I liked how realistic it was while still not taking forever and a day to get the next round going.
