Arrr Mateys! Telltale be givin’ away Tales o’ Monkey Island

TMI_logo_transparentIn honor of one of Icrontic’s favorite holidays, Telltale games will be giving away the complete first episode of Tales of Monkey Island for free on September 19th (International Talk Like a Pirate Day). From 12:01 am GMT, (that’s 7:01 pm Sept 18 EST), you’ll be able to download the entire first episode for free from http://playlikeapirate.com.

I suppose they’re getting you primed and ready to buy Episodes 2 and 3. We recently reviewed Episodes 1 and 2, and Episode 3 “Lair of the Leviathan” is coming out on the 29th.

Head on over an’ score yer free booty, and don’t say Cap’n Prime never did nothin’ fer ye, ye scurvy dog.

I'll give it another shot. I used to freaking love this genre, if you were to ask me what one of my favorite games all time are I would say Maniac Mansion which was a point and click style game. When it first came out, I enjoyed Myst the first time though. I thought the nostalgia factor for Monkey Island would drag me back in, but its just too casual, too easy for me now. Plus technically the 3D camera is god awful. Some things just work better in two simple dimensions.

I still thank them for providing a taste for free though. It's cool of them to do that for the audience even if some of us are not going to go back to it. I'm a little bummed, but gaming has evolved too much for me to really want to go back and play this kind of point and click game. I'm afraid the genre died for a reason.

The genre is far from dead. It's one of the most prevalent genres, and has been for years. However, most of them are low-budget (like this one), or even indi-level, while the big budgets go to FPSs and RTSs, so we don't hear much about them, but trust me: Point-and-click adventures still have an audience.
