Asetek tapped by Alienware for sealed cooling units

Asetek_Dell-Alienware-Liquid-Cooler-InstalledbigAsetek is a name that is normally associated with hardcore overclockers and extreme tech hobbyists. Purveyors of the Vapochill “mini-fridge“, they seemed doom to be manufacturers of exotic niche products for an extremely niche audience.

Thus, I was a bit taken aback to see their name come across the news desk this morning right next to the words “Dell” and “Alienware”.

Asetek have partnered with Dell to offer self-contained liquid cooling units upcoming Alienware “Area-51” and “Aurora” models.

Sealed liquid cooling units are a relatively new entrant to the PC cooling market. Icrontic got a chance to see CoolIT’s Domino ALC at CES 2009 and came away impressed; for those just beginning their foray into liquid cooling, the noise and performance benefits of sealed units can be compelling.

    23 Sep 2009 ~ 4:40pm djmeph I always knew this day would come, but this used to be talked about a lot during the netburst days, when effectively cooling some of Intel's top-end processors became a huge issue. I was more in line with AMD's platform, but many people though that liquid-cooling might become standard on high-end computers so Intel could continue to squeeze more clock cycles out of the netburst architecture.

    Does anyone know if the Asetek unit is available for resale?

    23 Sep 2009 ~ 6:15pm BuddyJ The Corsair H50 is built by Asetek. I'd wager it's the same unit but with Corsair branding.
