Tired of renting supercomputing time from labs all over the country, Dr. Gaurav Khanna, a scientist from University of Massachusetts, opted instead to beg off some PS3s from Sony to work on his gravity wave research.
Worried that his superiors would be dubious about purchasing “game consoles”, he resorted to explaining his situation to Sony, upon which they gave up 8 of their shiny black supercomputers.
Dr. Khanna’s tweaked-out code now runs calculations as fast as 200 supercomputing nodes that he used to be forced to rent time from.
