ATI is launching the new HD 4550 and 4350 graphics cards today, clenching the three major segments of the graphics card market. These two budget cards should cost $55 and $40 respectively, consume very little power, and offer consumers all sorts of HD video options.
The winner of the group is the HD 4550. It sports two HD decoders so users can watch and record HD at the same time or do neat stuff like HD picture-in-picture. It’ll upscale DVDs too. The card also features 7.1 channel sound and Crossfire compatibility with existing cards and chipsets.
The bottom rung HD 4350 is a choked-down version of the above card with an emphasis on passive cooling and half-height cards. Your Solitare-playing grandmother will love it.
The Inquirer anticipates NVIDIA will once again be cutting prices to stay relevant like they’ve done in response to the past few ATI releases. Once that happens, TheInq expects ATI to soundly dominate the graphics market for the foreseeable future.
